This article outlines some of the limitation with EMIS Web Job Categories and the role they play in both viewing a Shared Record and GP Connect Appointment Slots whilst also supporting new Enhanced Access ARRS roles.
Data Sharing - Job Categories
When an organisation completes an EMIS Web Care Record Sharing Agreement (form QF1091) there is a section asking if the organisation only wishes to enable certain Job Categories to be able to view a patients Shared Record:
If the organisation marks this as No then any EMIS user with a Job Category in the default Ruleset (see QF1186 form below) will be able to see a Shared Record - any user whose Job Category is not in the default Ruleset will see the following message when trying to view a Shared Record:
GP Connect Session Holders
Job Categories also play a crucial part in enabling appointment book slots to become GP Connect Bookable. For Appointment Slots to be able to be GP Connect bookable, the session holder must have assigned one of the following Job Categories:
R0260 | General Medical Practitioner | R1290 | Pharmacist |
R0270 | Salaried General Practitioner | R1300 | Psychotherapist |
R0410 | Student Practice Nurse | R1310 | Clinical Psychotherapist |
R0600 | Specialist Nurse Practitioner | R1330 | Social Worker |
R0610 | Sister/Change Nurse | R1450 | Health Care Support Worker |
R0620 | Staff Nurse | R1480 | Healthcare Assistant |
R0680 | Midwife | R1550 | Counsellor |
R0690 | Community Practitioner | R1590 | Phlebotomist |
R0700 | Community Nurse | R6200 | GP Registrar |
R0790 | Dietitian | R6300 | Sessional GP |
As you can see this is only a fraction of the Job Categories from the default Ruleset for accessing shared records. However some of the Job Categories above are not in the default Ruleset (highlighted yellow). Therefore if a clinician needs to have GP Connect bookable slots and see the Shared Record they must have one of the Job Categories above not highlighted yellow.
Job Categories that are included in the default Ruleset are in the attached spreadsheet at the bottom of this article.
Enhanced Access Clinician Roles
Another useful role Job Categories have is for GP Connect Slots. The clinicians Job Category is displayed in the Find GP Connect Appointments window (displayed as Practitioner Roles) and provides valuable information to the booking organisation to ensure their patient is booked in with the appropriate healthcare professional:
With Enhanced Access there are quite a few Job Categories aligned to ARRS roles that are not included in the default ruleset as well as not being enabled for GP Connect bookable slots. Examples are:
- Advanced Nurse Practitioner
- Healthcare Assistant
- Clinical Pharmacist
- Paramedic Advanced Practitioner
- First Contact Physiotherapist
- Dietitian Advanced Practitioner
- Occupational Therapist Advanced Practitioner
- Social Prescribing Link Worker
- Mental Health Practitioner
- Physiotherapist
- Podiatrist
To support the new Enhanced Access contract these should be enabled for both Record Sharing and GP Connect Appointments. This is something EMIS are hopefully going to address in the near future.
A related issue that can result in a user being able to view Shared Records is the usual registering GP not being recognised due to two person guids on the MPI. EMIS will have to correct tis for the patients.
