This article covers three versions of Docman:
- Docman 10
- Docman Share
- Docman Viewer
Docman 10
Docman 10 is a Cloud based system and is used in GP Practices. It replaced Docman 7 which was an on-premise system. It enables practice staff to scan clinical correspondence and for clinicians to annotate and workflow it. All Docman 10 files have a file suffix of .xx2. As it is a cloud based system there is no local install but, via the EMIS API, when a user opens a Docman 10 file (.xx2) within a patients record, it will open the Docman 10 Interface via a web browser (https://production.docman.thirdparty.nhs.uk ).
More information on Docman 10 can be found here - https://www.docman.com/docman10/
Docman Share
Docman Share provides secure access to Docman clinical documents stored as part of the Primary Care GP record ensuring professionals have a complete view of a patients clinical documents.
An API is enabled with EMIS Web Clinical Services which will enable clinicians to view (only view) a Docman file (any version) from the patients shared record - all within the EMIS Clinical Services Interface.
Docman Share Viewer is accessed from the Care Record within EMIS Web:

Docman Viewer
Docman Viewer (known as the PCTI Standalone Viewer) is a program developed by Docman back in 2014 as an interim solution (back in 2014 Docman Share was not available) for the Herefordshire GP Federation (Taurus Healthcare) to view a Docman File (only the original scanned version) from a shared record as an image file (.tif).
It must be noted that this solution is not supported by OneAdvanced (who now own Docman). It was only because James Harley still had the software that it has been introduced across Coventry & Warwickshire ICB.
The IT Services team at Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust pushed this software out to all devices and implemented a program to enable users who use the same device for EMIS Web GP (GP Practice) and EMIS Web Clinical Services (PCN Hub) to switch between Docman 10 Desktop or PCTI Viewer via the Start Menu:
This will run and then you can enter either 1 or 2 based on preference:
